Precision Reading is a a short, daily, remedial reading activity designed to improve fluency through deep reading, while simultaneously building student self-confidence. It is most suitable for middle and junior high students delayed in their reading development. Students set reading goals with the support of their teacher. Phonics and morphology skills, based on SWI, are specifically taught during the word study component. This one-on-one instructional activity is based on consistency and repetition requiring 10-15 minutes a day to implement. This session is built on the combined approaches of Dr. Rick Freeze, the University of Manitoba and Dr. Peter Bowers, WordWorks Literacy Centre.
